News update
on the New Rugby Pitches

WCC will be putting the case to the WCC cabinet, within the next few months, for the Compulsory Purchase Order. In the meantime meetings are being held with the Rugby Football Union.

Tennis Club

The Tennis courts refurbishment has been completed at Arlebury Park. This work was financed from the Open Spaces Fund (money paid by developers for recreational facilities) and WCC have gave a grant. The town now has the benefit of all courts having porous drainage and a new tennis pavilion is being planned.

Recreation Committee

This committee meets every two months and is responsible for all recreation, sport, youth matters and related issues. It is responsible for all parks and recreations grounds in council ownership: Arlebury Park, Stratton Bates, Sunhill Recreation, Memorial Gardens and The Soke Garden.

Every Recreational project undertaken by the committee has had the benefit and support from Alresford sports clubs and numerous organisations that use the facilities and we would like to thank them for their continued co-operation and assistance. The Alresford Recreational facilities have benefited from the introduction of new facilities and the old facilities have received a much needed face lift. To maintain high standards renovation is on going and at the beginning of May, new equipment will be installed at both Stratton Bates and Sun Hill with the soft surfacing at both sites being repaired and upgraded. The Arlebury Park play area was upgradred during the course of 2008.

Maintenance and improvements are ongoing and the excellent condition of all our Recreational sites is solely due to our Groundsman Peter Bridges whose diligent hard work has resulted in the well kept grounds that we all enjoy.

The possibilty of providing a 4 or 6 rink petanque pitch is being investigated and provided this can be done at a reasonable cost may become reality. Funding for the work would be from the Open Spaces Fund (Money paid by developers for recreational facilities) and would be at no cost to the taxpayer.

Stratton Bates Hedgerow

With the help of the Alresford Wildlife Group, the problem of the hedge at Stratton Bates has been resolved. The hedge has been reduced and thickened and the group has agreed to ensure the area remains free of all litter..
