RUGBY CLUB SET FOR TOUCH DOWN

After many years of playing on a rented field in Bighton, Alresford Rugby Club’s dream of a permanent home comes a step closer this month.

New Alresford Town Council has reached an outline agreement with the owner of the land adjacent to Arlebury Park, who has agreed to provide some 10 acres of land to the town for the provision of rugby pitches and other recreational uses.

“This generous provision is dependent upon planning permission being granted for a small number of houses on part of the land,” said Roy Gentry, Chairman of New Alresford Town Council.  “This scheme will also include an area for parking which will double the space available at Arlebury Park.

“The Town Council has been working on this project for nearly two years and has now reached the stage where it is important that residents are consulted, as councillors are keen to get people’s views at an early stage, before detailed plans are produced.

“This is a significant addition to the town’s open space, and whilst it does mean giving up a small area of land to housing, it will protect a key area of the town which adjoins sensitive countryside for ever, as well as providing much needed additional recreation space.”

A public meeting will be held on 22nd July at 7.30 pm at the Alresford Recreation Centre to discuss the project and to get residents’ input and comments.
