Football  TI has carried out maintenance on the shed and cleared rubbish at the back.  Repairs done to pitches and all in place for next season which starts first week in August, there will be two games on Saturdays and one on Sundays.  Seating has been removed from the balcony for the summer.  However, it is a requirement of the Football League that seats are provided on the balcony.  The only alternative is to have a stand.  The tennis changing room had again been found open.   People have been seen sleeping overnight under the balcony.  TI queried the layout of the fire escape which comes back under the balcony.  RG advised that the existing layout was approved by the Fire Safety Officer and a fire certificate has been lodged with the council to permit seats on the balcony.   A query was raised reference the surface/drainage at Stratton Bates pitches, TI advised that the problem was resolved by using a better quality of seed.

Youth Football – CB reported that there are nine youth teams ranging from ‘Under 8’s’ to ‘Under 18’s’ – about 140 children.  Season restarts in September and games are split between Arlebury Park and Stratton Bates.

Cricket -  No report.

Rugby  HO reported that  it had been a disappointing season for the Rugby Club with results. Two senior teams playing most Saturdays and are still attracting new players.  A core of younger players now coming in but many lost at junior level due to not having a pitch in the town.  Are unable at the moment to find a regular and satisfactory coach to train, select and manage the teams which is likely to be principal cause of poor performance this season.  The mini section is thriving and have been invited back to Alresford Show to put on an event in the main ring.  Rugby continue to participate in local events by exhibiting or by providing parking and stewarding services.  Continue to have a close relationship with Perins and are again financing the rugby kit for their South Africa tour.  HO has nominated Rosie Tugwell, a young rugby coach who helps a lot in local schools as well as coaching seniors, for torch carrying for the Olympics.

Tennis  RM reported that whilst the resurfacing had been carried out successfully problems have been encountered with costs for the pavilion project with an £8,000 shortfall.  Foundations will require an extra £4,000 and other costs e.g. planning consents are higher than anticipated.  The Tennis Club did receive money from the Open Spaces New Alresford fund and would like to apply now for a further £6,000 from the villages and NATC – 55% of members, New Alresford and 22% Old Alresford.   Will also be going back to the contractors to see if they can give a reduction.   MP advised that Old Alresford has no spend and cannot broker play for sport, but an approach could be made to Bighton.  To be established whether funding  and brokering from the villages would be acceptable.

Arlebury Park

Play Equipment Update:   The long boat has been temporarily moved due to vandals moving it from its base.  Pete Bridges re-installing onto a concrete base.  Timberline have done the remedial work required.  Agreed that invoice should now be paid.

Proposal for Extension to Skate Park/BMX Track:  Cllr McCullouch’s report ‘Proposal for a Wheeled Sports Area on Arlebury Park’ circulated with agenda. Clive Cobb,  spokesperson for Alresford youth was invited to address the meeting.  A facebook page has been set up to gauge support   to date 176 have joined.  The proposed design by Bencrete (shown in report) is popular with users.   Noise issues less than with skateboarding as no metal sheeting on ramps – once foundations installed,  a sound barrier would be created by excess soil.  Additionally design uses poured concrete rather than cast concrete.  Although space tight trees should not need to come out but possibly a small amount of hedge would be lost.  The BMX group would be happy to plant trees if required.  Need to ensure not in contravention of legislation with proximity to fence.  BJ advised that planning consent will be required.  Public participation will be needed, perhaps as part of the planning process.  SM to ask Bencrete whether they would be willing to prepare the planning application.  SM / BMX’ers to establish if there is a national association for the sport – if so, can they be tried for funding/advice.  SM also to check funding possibilities with WCC and HCC.

Resolution:  The necessary work be put in hand to seek planning permission for a BMX track and this to be funded from the open spaces fund.

Proposed:  Cllr R Gentry                          Seconded:  Cllr M Power                      Agreed

To be ratified by Full Town Council

Play Equipment Update:  Pete Bridges did good job with fencing extension.  Disabled equipment now installed and being well used.  Swing due to very limited movement suitable only for disabled use and kept secured.   Residents at nos 1 and 3 Ashburton Road kindly agreed to hold keys until a radar lock obtained.  Letter of thanks to be sent.  Roundabout suitable for both disabled and able bodied children.   Due to problems with Timberline installations this company not being used again.  Remaining toddler equipment has been looked at again and an order will be placed instead with Wicksteed.

CCTV for Play Equipment:   This item raised by a member of the public.  Agreed that money spent on installing CCTV could not be recouped and when considered in relation to the cost of insurance it is not a viable option.  Repairs have to be undertaken and this option is cheaper than installing CCTV.     Therefore it was agreed not to pursue.  Letter to be forwarded advising of the committee’s decision in this.  It was agreed to consider notices advising number to call if vandalism is witnessed.  Cost to be ascertained.
